BJP leader in West Bengal has been arrested for distributing Gau Mutra or cow urine as prasad. BJP worker Narayan Chatterjee had recently organised a Gau Mutra party, wherein the guests gathered to worship the cow and consume its urine to ward off the impact of the novel coronavirus.

The BJP leader had claimed that the Gau Mutra provides people immunity to fight the deadly virus, which has affected over 2 lakh people worldwide – killing at least 8,000.

However, during the party, Narayan Chatterjee allegedly offered some cow urine to a cop and told him it was prasad. The cop, Pintu Pramanik, consumed it and allegedly fell ill.

The policeman has filed a complaint against Chatterjee, on the basis of which the BJP leader has been arrested by the Kolkata police.

On the basis of Pramanik’s complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 269 (unlawfully or negligently spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 278 (making the atmosphere noxious to health) and 114 (abettor present when a crime is committed) of the Indian Penal Code.

The BJP leader is now in police custody.
