Pointing to the increasing terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah on Sunday questioned the central government and said that the Union government should answer the entire nation.

“How have the terrorists, which are around 200-300, come? From where have they come? Someone is responsible who is double-crossing…Who is dying- our Colonel, Major, and soldiers? How is all this happening? The central government should answer the entire nation. Even the Bangladesh border is porous now,” Farooq Abdullah told ANI.

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert ahead of Independence Day to ensure the safety and security of the people.

Security forces are conducting vehicle checks in the Bhimber Gali and Manjakote sectors as part of heightened security measures.

Earlier today, security forces initiated a search operation following a brief exchange of fire with terrorists in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, according to the police.

On Saturday, two Army soldiers lost their lives in an encounter.

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks of the Indian Army on Sunday paid tribute to Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma, who lost their lives in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on August 10.

“General Upendra Dwivedi COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army salute the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts Hav Dipak Kumar Yadav and L/Nk Praveen Sharma, who laid down their lives in the line of duty, in Anantnag, J&K,” the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), said in a post on X.

Recent months have seen a rise in terror attacks in Jammu, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur.

In July, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported to the Lok Sabha that 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations up to July 21 this year. (ANI)
