A day after two army soldiers lost their lives in action in an encounter with terrorists, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that security forces have changed their strategy and will be able to bring the terror incidents under control.

Speaking to ANI on the security situation, the Union Minister said, “The security forces have changed their strategy. In the coming weeks, our security forces will be able to bring the situation of terror incidents well under control.”

When asked about the BJP’s preparedness for the assembly polls in the Union Territory, Jitendra Singh said, “BJP is always ready for all types of elections, be it the Vidhan ZSabha, Lok Sabha or the Panchayat polls. BJP is a 24/7 party. It does not need preparation, it is always prepared.”

Two Army soldiers lost their lives in action and two civilians were injured in an operation on Saturday.

As per officials, the encounter broke out during a joint operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF in the general area of Kokernag in Anantnag.

Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma laid down their lives in the line of duty in Anantnag.

The incident occurred at an altitude of 10,000 feet on Saturday, as security forces continued operations despite the challenging terrain.

“Two Indian Army soldiers lost their lives in an encounter in Anantnag district of Kashmir,” Defence officials had said.

They were injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag, officials had said.

Earlier, the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu visited Jammu and Kashmir to review the preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections.

The Election Commission of India has indicated that assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30, the deadline set by the Supreme Court.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Friday said that the Election Commission is “committed” to conducting polls in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest, adding that the people of J-K will give a befitting response to “disruptive forces.”

CEC further said that all parties in Jammu and Kashmir are “batting strongly” for holding assembly elections.

In December of last year, the Supreme Court directed the Centre to conclude the election process by September 30, 2024.

Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of ten years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the latter withdrew support to the then-Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti. (ANI)
