Jammu, February 4, 2026: In the Legislative Assembly today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed backlash over a controversial 10-year outsourcing deal for a key power project, calling it an “inherited situation” from the previous administration.
CM Omar Abdullah says, “This situation was inherited by us. Initially, it was for three years, and at that time, we were not even in office. Before coming in on October 24, this was outsourced. The outsourcing was done for ten years. You asked correctly why it was done for ten years, but it was done. At that time, the department understood it correctly that it was done for ten years. If you wish, it can be cancelled…”
The remark came amid opposition demands to scrap the long-term contract, awarded pre-National Conference-Congress government’s October 2024 takeover. Abdullah emphasized reviewing the deal while defending the department’s initial assessment | K Pen
