Jammu, January 4: Jammu and Kashmir Government told the Assembly on Wednesday it has no plans for monthly financial aid to young advocates with over three years of practice.

The Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs responded to Question No. 922 by MLA Shamima Firdous. The Minister confirmed no such proposal is under consideration, despite existing limited assistance for advocates.

Introducing regular stipends for this group could spark demands from other licensed professionals and technocrats—who currently lack similar support—and strain state finances, the reply stated.

This contrasts with other states offering stipends to junior advocates in their first five years, aimed at easing financial pressures, curbing early dropouts, and supporting skill-building.

J&K lacks any structured stipend scheme, leaving young and first-generation lawyers vulnerable in their critical early career phase.
