Srinagar 05 Aug : A delegation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jammu & Kashmir UT Council, Skill Development and Women Leadership panels, called on Dr. Shafquat Ara, Principal Government Polytechnic College, Srinagar, today to explore collaborative avenues for women’s skill development and employment in the automobile sector.
The delegation was lead by Mr. Ufair Ajaz, Convener of the CII J&K Skills Panel and comprised of Mr. Khurshid Dar, Director CII J&K .Ms. Ridha Rashid, Co-Convener of the CII J&K Women Leadership Panel, Mr. Ishfaq Ahmed,Co Convener, CII Panel on Trade and Retail
During the meeting, Eicher Volvo team team gave a presentation on Project Tejaswini, an initiative through which women are being trained in the automobile trade, with a clear pathway to placements at local automobile dealerships.
Expanding on the project’s vision, Mr. Ufair Ajaz explained the entire skilling-to-employment process and gave a firm assurance to absorb the highest possible number of female candidates from the programme.
He further assured that the Honda dealership network would also extend internship opportunities to the trained women, giving them valuable hands-on industry exposure.
Dr. Shafquat Ara appreciated the CII’s proactive initiative, noting that such industry-academia partnerships are vital to bridging the gender gap in non-traditional trades and creating sustainable livelihoods for women in the Kashmir Valley.
Both sides agreed to fast-track the formalization of a collaborative framework to scale up the Tejaswini project and replicate its success across other trades and institutions also in the Union Territory.
