SRINAGAR 05 Aug : Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive intermittent rain and thundershowers over the next 10 days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected between August 9 and 11, according to the latest weather forecast.
From August 6 to 8, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief spells of intense showers possible at isolated locations.
A more active weather spell is expected from August 9 to 11, when moderate rainfall may occur across many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Some districts could receive heavy rain accompanied by brief intense showers during this period.
The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall in vulnerable areas could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones, besides causing a rise in water levels in streams and rivulets.
Temporary disruption to surface transport, particularly on hilly roads and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, cannot be ruled out in the event of heavy showers, the forecast indicated.
Between August 12 and 15, weather conditions are expected to remain generally unstable, with light rain or thundershowers likely at many places and brief intense showers possible at isolated locations.
Meanwhile, several areas of the Jammu region recorded significant rainfall during the past 24 hours. Udhampur received 66.6 mm, Kathua 81 mm, Samba 47 mm and Katra 51 mm of rain.
Residents, tourists and commuters have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, and to follow official weather advisories before travelling.
