Srinagar, July 27: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today praised the University of Kashmir as one of the country’s leading institutions of higher learning, commending both its academic output and the distinguished achievements of its alumni.
Addressing a packed gathering at the Mega Alumni Meet–2025 held at the university campus, the Chief Minister emphasized two core indicators of an institution’s success: “The first is the quality of research it produces, and the second is the achievements of its alumni. By both these standards, the University of Kashmir stands at par with the finest universities in India,” he said.
The grand event brought together an illustrious lineup of dignitaries including Chief Justice of India, Justice B. R. Gavai, Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan. The welcome address was delivered by former Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magray. The gathering also included Supreme Court Judges, Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court Justice Arun Palli, several sitting High Court Judges, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, and a large number of alumni from diverse professional backgrounds.
In his address, Omar Abdullah celebrated the remarkable contributions of Kashmir University alumni in fields such as law, politics, medicine, administration, business, and social work. He urged former students to stay connected with the university and give back in meaningful ways:
“Kashmir University has given you a lot. If you could, even occasionally, return the favour through your efforts and experience, it would greatly benefit the current and future students.”
He also encouraged alumni to serve as role models for the next generation. “Just as you have brought pride to Jammu & Kashmir and to India, may the future students of this university continue this legacy,” he added.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister congratulated those alumni who were felicitated during the event, expressing appreciation for their contributions and extending his best wishes for their continued success | Kashmir Pen
