Srinagar, March 9: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reacted to a tweet by prominent religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who condemned the recent fashion show held in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramzan.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had termed the event “outrageous,” questioning how an “obscene fashion show” could be allowed in a region known for its Sufi traditions and deeply religious outlook. His remarks sparked widespread debate and anger among the public.
Responding to the concerns raised, CM Omar Abdullah acknowledged the shock and anger, stating that the images from the event showed a “complete disregard for local sensitivities.” He assured that his office has contacted local authorities and demanded a report within 24 hours, promising “further action as appropriate.”
The incident has intensified discussions on the cultural impact of tourism promotion in Kashmir, with calls for strict accountability. Authorities are expected to respond soon as pressure mounts from both political and religious quarters: Kashmir Pen
