Srinagar, June 28 : Congress party legislators Wednesday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor on Wednesday seeking his intervention in what they termed as police failure in maintaining the status quo of land belonging to party leader Tariq Hamid Karra.

Congress legislators including Ghulam Nabi Monga, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Usman Majid, Muhammad Amin Bhat, GM Saroori and Gulzar Ahmed met Narendra Vohra at Raj Bhavan Srinagar.

Talking to reporters shortly after the culmination of the meeting, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Monga said that they discussed the land and GST issue with the Governor. “We presented a petition to the Governor regarding the encroachment of the land belonging to party leader Tariq Hamid Kara at Shivpora Srinagar. The party is not going to tolerate political witch hunting. Even after the directions from the Court, the police and Custodian Department has failed to maintain the status quo of the said land where illegal constructions are being raised up. It has been a serious issue as the land belonging to our party leader is being grabbed just because of the affiliation with Congress party,” Monga said.

“We presented a formal order issued by Custodian Department asking police to stop illegal encroachment on the land at Shivpora but despite that land grabbers continued with the construction,” he said.

Monga said that the party also raised apprehensions about the implementation of GST in Jammu and Kashmir. “The Government has sinister plans. It didn’t provide us documents about GST and furthermore we were informed at the eleventh hour that a meeting on GST will be held,” Monga said and added that they will not support its implementation as it violates the financial autonomy of the state.
