DODA, OCTOBER 1: The removal of Urdu language from the signboard of Boys Higher Secondary School Doda had triggered widespread disappointment, with many residents stressing that Urdu is not just a language but a vital thread of the region’s cultural and historical fabric.

Recognizing the sensitivity of the issue, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Sh. Harvinder Singh, intervened promptly and directed the restoration of Urdu on the signboard. His timely action has drawn appreciation from across the community, with locals praising his responsiveness and deep commitment to preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the district.

Residents emphasized that Urdu has long been a medium of education, administration, and literature in Doda and surrounding areas, and its visibility in public spaces is essential to honoring this legacy. The intervention, they said, reaffirms the administration’s role in safeguarding the pluralistic ethos that defines the region | Kashmir Pen
