Visited balidaan stumb on last service day; says grateful to mothers, sisters, children, elderly for their unwavering support; as Swain tenure draws to a close, Nalin Prabhat is set to take over as the new police chief of J&K

Srinagar, Sep 30 : As the final day in office, Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain visited the Balidan Stambh (Martyr’s Memorial) in Pratap Park, Lal Chowk, Srinagar, to pay tribute to fallen heroes.
Reflecting on his three decades of service, Swain shared his belief that he successfully worked to create an atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir free from fear and intimidation.
RR, Swain who served in various capacities from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to DGP, described his 30-year-long career as a unique opportunity. As per the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB), he said not everyone is granted the chance to serve the people of J&K for so many years.
“For that, I am deeply grateful to the Almighty, the government, and my colleagues,” he said, in response to a question about the challenges he faced throughout his career.
The outgoing police chief emphasized that during his tenure, his primary goal was to bring lasting peace to the region, ensuring that peace was accompanied by dignity for all its residents. “I worked with all sincerity—body, mind, and soul—to contribute to the peace and wellbeing of the people,” he said, adding that he was especially grateful to mothers, sisters, children, and the elderly for their unwavering support.
“For a police officer, the Balidan Stambh is nothing short of a place of worship. It represents the ultimate sacrifice made by countless heroes. I believe it is my duty to honor them on the last day of my service,” Swain said.
Summing up his career, Swain expressed that he did everything within his power to ensure that every resident of Jammu and Kashmir could live a life of peace, free from fear and intimidation. He believes he did not miss the opportunity to fulfill this vital responsibility.
In the meanwhile, as RR Swain’s tenure draws to a close, Nalin Prabhat is set to take over as the new police chief of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing hope for continued efforts toward peace and stability in the region.
