A meeting of Executive office bearers of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) led by its chairman Dr G M Mir, was held today in which the recent issue of assault on a medical doctor while performing his professional duties at SMHS was discussed threadbare.
The meeting took feedback from Resident Doctors Association(RDA), GMC Srinagar and it has been verified that no concrete action has been taken against the erring police official till now and not even a FIR has been lodged against the erring cop. This shows the callous and insensitive attitude of the concerned authorities. In the meeting it was unanimously decided if the erring cop is not booked immediately, doctors would be forced to go for valley wide strike in solidarity with our colleagues in SMHS Hospital.
Doctors have been pressing for a long time for an ordinance against violence towards doctors as is in vogue in various other states of India under which an assault on a doctor has been made a non bailable offence and those involved in damaging property of hospitals have to pay three times the cost of damaged property. It was further observed that Dr Ovais Wani manhandling incident should not be treated in isolation as assault on doctors have become a routine affair across state but unfortunately the Government is watching as a mute spectator thereby endangering the lives of doctors.
DAK stressed upon the Hon’ble Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti, Hon’ble Health Minister, Mr Bali Bhagat, MoS Health, Ms Asiea Naqash, Director General of Police to intervene in this Grave matter at the earliest, otherwise we would be forced to go on strike and join our SMHS brethren and onus will fall on the Government said Dr Mir
