Srinagar, Apr 11 The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) J&K on Friday rolled out a comprehensive action plan as part of the 100-day Special Campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, with high-energy awareness rallies, padyatras, and pledge ceremonies held simultaneously across all districts.
The first day of the historic campaign witnessed massive public participation, with thousands of students and commoners joining the initiative aimed at reclaiming the potential of youth from substance abuse, officials said.
In Samba, an awareness rally saw over 850 students and 115 employees march from Rani Suchet Singh Sports Stadium, while in Kishtwar, a grand padyatra commenced from the historic Char Chinar Chowgan and culminated at the DC Office. Similar events were held in Doda, Kulgam, Ramban, and Banihal, they added.
The Directorate has also planned a series of sports activities across the Union Territory to reinforce physical discipline as a barrier to addiction.
In Baramulla, the campaign swept across all schools in Sopore, Kunzer, and Pattan, where morning assemblies were dedicated to the ‘Nasha Mukt’ oath. Kathua, Kupwara, Rajouri and Poonch also witnessed sensitisation drives and sports competitions.
“Sports is the best antidote to the drug menace,” Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta said.
Lauding the field staff for their tireless efforts, she said their unmatched commitment to organising these massive events at the grassroots level is the true driving force behind the mission’s success.
“As this 100-day journey continues, the Directorate remains committed to sustaining this momentum, paving the way for a safe and progressive environment for generations to come,” the DG added.
Meanwhile, the DG YSS along with departmental officers, physical education staff, and sportspersons also joined the padyatra flagged off by Lieutenant Governor of J&K at MA Stadium Jammu, which culminated at Parade Ground. (KNS)
