Minister for education Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari Saturday said the issue of beating of teacher by SDM Kokernag will be taken up with chief secretary.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Bukhari said the act of SDM Kokernag was condemnable. “I really condemn it. SDM should have not beaten the teacher,” he said.
The education minister said the issue will be taken up with chief secretary of J&K state as well.
“These (SDM) officials are responsible for overall administration and should be cautious while dealing with employees,” he said.
He said appropriate action will be taken after ascertaining all the facts about the incident.
Earlier in the day, teachers staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Anantnag to protest against the reported thrashing of a teacher by the SDM Kokernag.
The protesters alleged that the teacher was manhandled, cursed, abused and thrashed by the SDM and his subordinates over an issue in delivering his duties as BLO.
The said teacher, according to the protesting teachers, was already suspended for not attending winter tutorials.
“One person can’t do two jobs at a time. Either he has to be BLO or he has to attend classes in winter tutorials,” the protesting teachers said.
They also threatened to boycott the winter tutorial programme of the government if they failed to take action against the SDM
