Srinagar, Jan 12: The Food Safety Department, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday unearthed an alleged fake honey and desi ghee manufacturing unit operating in Srinagar, where adulterated products were reportedly being sold as home-made.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, food safety teams carried out coordinated raids at multiple locations in Barthana and Qamarwari. During the inspections, officials seized sizable quantities of hydrogenated oil used to produce a mixture marketed as desi ghee, and sugar allegedly processed to prepare a substance sold as local honey.
Officials said the adulterated products were being distributed locally, posing a potential threat to public health. Samples have been collected for laboratory testing and further legal action will be pursued under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
