Srinagar, Nov 09 :  Irked by very low voltage, the residents of Iqbal sector, Zafran Colony, Srinagar Thursday urged the Chief Engineer Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd to direct the officials to start the transformer installed in the area some three months ago so that people can heave a sigh of relief.

Residents of Iqbal Sector Lane 2 and Lane 3 told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are facing immense hardships due to very low voltage of power since past few days. “At times, voltage is as low as 60. We are not able to put on our lamps too,” said Adil Bashir, a resident.

He said that people also faced problems while offering prayers at the local mosque—Masjid-e-Muhamdiya (Iqbal Sector, Zafran Colony, Lane 3) where voltage was so low that prayer call couldn’t be given. A group of elderly residents said that the 1100 KV transformer was installed a few meters from the masjid almost three months ago, but that is yet to be made functional, the reasons best known to KPDCL authorities.

“Many a times, we approached the power officials, every time we were told that the new transformer will be connected soon after installation of new meters and cabling of HT/LT wires,” said Fayaz Ahmed, another local.

He said that now that meters have been installed in entire locality, the transformer is yet to be connected while people continue to suffer. The locals including the elderly of Iqbal Sector Lane, 2 and 3 of Zafran Colony, Srinagar urged the Chief Engineer KPDCL to intervene and direct the concerned officials to connect the transformer so that people can use the electricity for which they are paying and that they can pray in the masjid after hearing the prayer call properly. “We hope Chief Engineer KPDCL will address our genuine demand on priority,” the locals said.

Locals of the area also urged the DDC member Khonmoh Er Aijaz Hussain to take note of the issue and to pursue the same on priority with the concerned authorities for immediate redressal
