Baramulla, Aug 25 : Three local Kashmiris who were among the seven killed in Gulmarg Gandola tragedy on June 25 this year have not received a single penny as exgratia while Government of Jammu and Kashmir has already provided an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh each to next of the kins of those four slain Delhi tourists who were also killed in the accident.
Among the dead were Jayant Andraskar, his wife Manshea and their daughters Anagha and Janhvi — residents of Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh. The other three victims were locals identified as Mukhtar Ahmed Ganie son of Ali Muhammad of Chotipathar Tangmarg, Javed Ahmed Khandey, son of Muhammad Akram of Warpora Tangmarg and Farooq Ahmed Chopan son of Abdul Gani, a resident of Batoo Tangmarg.
The families of the three local victims said that shortly after the tragedy, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for next to kin of those killed in the mishap.
“It has been two months and we are still roaming from pillar to post in search of relief. The Delhi victim family has already been given exgratia while local victim families have been ignored,” Showkat Ahmed, one of the members of a victim family told news agency CNS.
These victim families said that government had not only promised to provide job to one of the slain family members but had also promised to provide compensation under Gandola Insurance Scheme. “We have got nothing. We have been roaming from one government office to another,” they said.
Managing Director State Cable Car Corporation, Mr Shamim Ahme said that the cases are under process and they will sooner or later get the exgratia relief
