Virtual Court Proceedings on Mondays, Fridays from May 25
50% Staff Roster, Car-Pooling for Judges Among Key Measures
GUWAHATI, May 22 The Gauhati High Court has issued a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to strengthen virtual court functioning, conserve fuel and promote digital administration across its Principal Seat, outlying benches and district courts under its jurisdiction.
According to Notification No. 32 dated May 21, 2026, matters listed on Mondays and Fridays will preferably be heard through video conferencing, with VC links to be provided to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings. Court Masters have been directed to coordinate with advocates and litigants for seamless virtual hearings.
As part of fuel conservation measures, Hon’ble Judges have been encouraged to adopt car-pooling arrangements, while the use of official vehicles for administrative errands has been curtailed. Departments have also been instructed to combine multiple official tasks into single trips wherever possible.
The High Court has further introduced a 50 percent alternate-day roster system for staff in judicial and administrative sections. Mandatory use of the e-Office platform for file movement and official communication has also been ordered to enhance digital governance.
However, crucial sections including Protocol, Filing, Copying, Bench, Computer and e-Courts Division have been exempted from the roster system and will continue full physical functioning.
In another key decision, all administrative committee meetings and training programmes of the Judicial Academy, Assam will now be conducted through virtual mode.
The district courts of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have also been directed to issue separate local notifications for implementation of the SOP in their respective jurisdictions.
The SOP will come into effect from May 25, 2026 and remain operational till June 26, 2026, after which the measures will be reviewed by the High Court.
