Srinagar, Sep 25: A workshop on the basics of surgical fundamentals was held at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar under the chairmanship of Dr M R Attri, Professor and Head, Department of Minimal Access Surgery, GMC Srinagar.
The workshop was inaugurated by Principal and Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof Iffat Hassan Shah. The invited guest faculty was Prof Chintamani, Chairman of Indian Surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and presently Chairman and Director of Surgical Oncology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
The workshop focused on the basics of suturing and knotting in surgery, which form the foundation of every surgeon’s training before performing surgical procedures. The participants were taught that the final outcome of surgery depends significantly on these basic principles.
The techniques were demonstrated by Prof Chintamani, who, according to the organisers, is a pioneer in these techniques in India and abroad.
Around 60-70 surgeons from various disciplines and different parts of the country participated in the workshop and learnt the techniques, which the organisers said would help improve surgical practice in the Union Territory.
The organisers said that surgical fundamentals are important not only for surgical trainees but also for surgical teachers to enhance their knowledge and expertise and ultimately benefit patients.
Organising Secretaries Dr Mohsin Mushtaq and Dr Irfan Nazir played a key role in conducting the workshop, which the organisers said would contribute to improving patient care in surgical specialties across the Union Territory.
