Srinagar, Sep 25: Proceedings of the fourth day of the J&K Legislative Assembly session began amid protests by Congress members, who raised banners demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar.
As Congress MLAs raised the banners inside the House, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather asked them to take their seats, pointing out that the Assembly had no authority over the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, National Conference MLA from Pahalgam, Altaf Kaloo, raised an issue with the Speaker, alleging that a video showing him sharing a conversation with another party MLA had been circulated on social media.
“The video has been presented in a wrong way on social media,” Kaloo said.
The Question Hour subsequently commenced, but moments later, Congress MLAs entered the well of the House carrying banners.
The Speaker asked the protesting members to return to their seats, warning them, “Before I take action against you.”
Following the Speaker’s intervention, the Congress members returned to their seats, allowing the Question Hour to proceed.
