New Delhi, July 26: In a sweeping crackdown, the Government of India has banned several Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms accused of promoting obscene content. Among the affected platforms are Ullu TV, Desiflix, and ALTT (Alt Balaji) — a popular app owned by a subsidiary of Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms.

The ban is part of an intensified regulatory push against digital content that allegedly violates public decency and morality norms. According to reports, ALTT, which held the highest market value and investment among the banned platforms, has been particularly hard hit. The closure of the app is estimated to have caused a financial setback of nearly ₹900 crore to Ekta Kapoor’s media company.

This action signals a decisive move by authorities to enforce content guidelines on digital entertainment platforms, amid growing concerns over unregulated streaming content reaching mass audiences| Kashmir pen
