Srinagar, Jun 01: No decision has yet been taken on the resumption of operations of the Gulmarg Gondola, which has remained suspended since May 25 following a technical fault, officials said.

Managing Director of the Gulmarg Gondola Project, Syed Qamar Sajjad, said the authorities were yet to decide when the cable car service would resume.

He said tourists who had booked tickets for the Gondola between May 25 and June 2 or 3 would begin receiving refunds from Sunday.

“The refund process is being initiated for visitors affected by the suspension of services,” Sajjad said. The Gondola service was suspended on May 25 after a technical snag developed in the system, leaving hundreds of tourists stranded in cabins.

A rescue operation involving the Gondola’s technical staff and emergency response agencies was launched soon after the incident, during which more than 300 tourists were safely evacuated. Officials said all passengers were rescued without any injuries.

The authorities are yet to announce a timeline for restoring the service, one of Kashmir’s major tourist attractions.
