Heat wave grips Valley, Sgr sizzles at 34.6 degrees

Srinagar records season’s hottest day at 34.3 degree Celsius; MeT forecasts rains, flash floods till July 07

Srinagar, Jul 02 : The heat wave has gripped Kashmir Valley on Tuesday with most of the places recording the hottest day of the season while the weatherman forecasted flash floods amidst the possibility of light to moderate rainfall from July 4 to July 7.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the maximum temperature recorded a further rise today with Srinagar recording the hottest day of the season at 34.6 degree Celsius.

Some other parts including Kupwara, Pahalgam, Qazigund and Kokernag have also recorded the hottest day of the season today. In Kupwara, the mercury settled at 34.6 degree Celsius while Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded 34.0 degree Celsius and Kokernag and Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4 degree Celsius and 29.1 degree Celsius respectively.

With the further rise in the mercury, the parts of Kashmir including Srinagar, Qazigund, Kupwara and Kokernag recorded the heat wave today.

The Jammu division has recorded almost similar temperatures like yesterday. The details reveal that Jammu, a winter capital of the Union Territory, recorded 37.2 degree Celsius while Banihal recorded 31.8 degree Celsius.

Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 29.1 degree Celsius, 33.5 degree Celsius and 34.7 degree Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the weatherman here has predicted hot and humid weather with possibility of spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places of Jammu towards late night and early morning and spell of rain and thundershower at few places of Kashmir.

On July 04, Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said, an intermittent spell of light to moderate rain and thundershower is expected at many places with isolated heavy rain over Jammu division.

On July 5 & 6, there is a possibility of intermittent moderate rainfall at most places of J&K with heavy showers and rainfall at few places.

According to Director MeT, the hot and humid weather is expected with possibility of spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places of Jammu towards late night and early morning and spell of rain and thundershower at few places of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, in its advisory, the MeT has said that thunderstorm, lightning and flash floods, landslides, mudslides & shooting stones are expected at few vulnerable places during 4th-6th July, adding that a few low lying areas may experience temporary water logging conditions
