A huge quantity of illicit timber has been seized in Kangan Ganderbal district on Thursday morning.
Sources told that a four wheeler sumo without number plate on its way to Kangan was stopped by a forest check post and the illegal timber was recovered and seized on the spot.

The recovery of such huge quantity of wooden logs raises the questions on the working of the forest department. Despite the presence of checkpoint at Kachpora, how the vehicle laden with such heavy wooden logs managed to reach Kangan, that too in broad daylight.

The local people of the area alleged that smuggling of such huge quantity isn’t possible without the nexus of forest department.
An official told that a case has been in this registered and further investigation has been set into motion. He said that the vehicle was confiscated by the Forest Department employees. However, the driver of the sumo vehicle managed to escape from the spot. However the F.I.R number couldn’t be verified immediately.

Despite the repeated attempts by the CNS to contact DFO forest division Ganderbal Owais Ahmad, but he didn’t pick up the call. (CNS)
