SRINAGAR 01 Aug : Intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers are expected across Jammu and Kashmir until August 7, with heavy showers likely in parts of the Jammu region and a continued risk of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable hilly areas, according to the latest weather forecast.
The forecast indicates that while rain and thunderstorms are likely on most days over the coming week, prolonged or continuous rainfall is not expected. Most areas are likely to remain dry for a significant part of the day, with rainfall occurring in short, localised spells.
On August 2, isolated areas may witness thundershowers in the early morning, followed by another spell later in the afternoon and evening.
Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir are likely to receive rain or thundershowers on August 3, with activity in several areas expected towards the evening. Individual spells are likely to last less than two hours.
A spell of rain or thundershowers is also possible at scattered places on August 4. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue from August 5 to 7, with brief showers and thunderstorms likely at many places, although dry weather is expected to prevail for much of the day.
Forecasters have cautioned that atmospheric conditions remain highly favourable for intense short-duration rainfall, increasing the likelihood of cloudbursts, localised heavy downpours and flash floods, particularly in mountainous and vulnerable areas.
Thundershowers are also likely along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where shooting stones, mudslides and landslides cannot be ruled out. Travellers have been advised to monitor weather and traffic advisories before undertaking journeys through the corridor.
The latest forecast also indicates the possibility of heavy showers in parts of the Jammu region during the forecast period, warranting heightened vigilance in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
