Srinagar ,10 Mar 2018
In a visit that is likely to have a far reaching impact on the process of peace and trust building, world renowned humanitarian and the founder of the Art of Living Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is arriving in Srinagar on Saturday, 10th M’arch, 2018. He has been invited by common people of Kashmir, who have formed the J&K Coordination Committee. (JKCC). The idea behind organising this event is to find a lasting solution to the age old Kashmir conflict.
The event will take place at SKICC Srinagar from 2pm onwards, where Sri Sri and other prominent members of the civil society will address the gathering.
Hundreds of local Kashmiris joined hands to organise an apolitical mega event at Srinagar on Saturday christened as “Paigam-e-Mohabbat”, which is expected to see participation of thousands of people from different walks of life, irrespective of their background and socio-political, socio-economic and socio-cultural identities.
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in his address at the event will call upon the community especially the youths to engage in the process of peace restoration in the paradise on earth, which has been gripped by violence and unrest over the past decades.
The idea behind organising the first-of-its-kind event – Paigam-e- Mohabbat, in Srinagar by the JKCC is to carry forward the message of peace and harmony propagated by Sri Sri in Bangalore in November, 2017. He is expected to meet people from all walks of life including the ones coming from the far flung areas of the troubled territory. After the event he is also scheduled to meet various delegations, who have urged to meet him personally.
Kashmir has always been known for its exemplary hospitality, and not hostility, for beats of Tumbaknaar, and not the volley of bullets and above all for its cultural heritage and fellow feelings and not the hatred and bloodsheds. The event and interactions seek to reinforce this message of love – Paigam-e- Mohabbat.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been in the forefront of conflict resolution attempts not only in Kashmir but also other parts of India and the world. His expertise in successfully bringing opposing parties to negotiation table in diverse countries is widely known. Similarly Sri Sri’s successes in Bihar and the North-East have been widely acknowledged.
He has been engaging with the various sections of the society in Jammu & Kashmir since 2000. From separatistl eaders to stone-pelters, Sufi saints to intellectuals, Art of Living, led by him, has been in a continuous and sustained dialogue with all the stakeholders. The reconciliation and conflict resolution efforts will continue to bridge religious, ideological and communal divides in the troubled valley.
