JAMMU, JANUARY 27 :To promote coordination and responsible reporting, J&K Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather met media personnel from various news organizations at the Assembly Secretariat in Jammu today. The session begins February 2, 2026.
Speaker Rather stressed media’s vital role in bolstering democracy by informing the public on legislative matters. He called for collaboration between the Chair and journalists to ensure seamless coverage while upholding the House’s dignity and traditions.
Acknowledging media’s power to spotlight public issues, he urged balanced reporting and prioritized public interest in journalistic work. Discussions covered media needs, including hassle-free entry, enhanced facilities, and a better working environment during sessions.
The Speaker announced imminent work on the New Legislative Assembly Complex, targeting completion in 18 months. He revealed partial rollout of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) for paperless operations this session, with full implementation next time.
Directing officials, he ordered advance issuance of entry passes via the Information Department, installation of microphones and PA systems in the Assembly Hall, shamianas for press briefings, secure parking, and high-speed Wi-Fi. He also tasked SSP Security and Traffic with smooth access and the Hospitality & Protocol department with logistical support.
Journalists offered suggestions to boost media engagement, praising the Speaker’s proactive steps. They raised concerns over parking, passes, Wi-Fi, and logistics, which were noted for action.
Attendees included Director Information Nitish Rajora, JKLA Secretary Manoj Kumar Pandita, SSP Civil Secretariat Security Sajjad Bhat, SSP Traffic Amit Bhasin, veteran journalists, bureau chiefs, and representatives from All India Radio, Doordarshan, and other agencies.
