Pattan, Jan 27, 2026: The Republic Day celebrations on January 26 in Pattan zone proceeded with enthusiasm, where many students received recognition for their talents. However, prominent educator Ms. Ishrat Tanki, head of a local institution, has raised alarms over alleged bias in award distribution, claiming decisions favored only government schools despite broad participation.
In a detailed Facebook post, Tanki highlighted the months of preparation by students, teachers, and parents from both private and government schools. “Unfortunately, when it comes to final appreciation, it is deeply disappointing to learn that decisions appeared to be pre-determined, with awards restricted only to government schools,” she wrote.
Tanki pointed to deeper systemic issues, criticizing the Education Department’s operations without a Zonal Education Officer (ZEO). “In the absence of proper leadership, lower-level clerical handling has led to irregular practices that go beyond their mandate,” she stated, urging urgent administrative reforms.
She emphasized fairness: “This is not a race, nor should any child be pushed behind another. Every child, whether from a private or government school, is part of our shared future.”
Announcing a personal inquiry, Tanki vowed to escalate the matter to authorities. “InshaAllah, I will place this issue before the competent authorities and will continue to pursue transparency and accountability… Even if I stand alone, I am enough to initiate change.” She invited support from honest officers, dignitaries, and media personalities.
The post, tagged with #EducationReforms, #PrivateSchoolsMatter, #IshratTanki, and mentions of #DirectorEducation and #Sakinaitoo, has sparked discussions on equity in J&K’s education system.
