Goa/Srinagar, Nov 26, (K Pen): The Jammu and Kashmir Government, through the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), showcased its updated J&K Film Policy 2024 at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, highlighting subsidies, simplified permissions, and improved filming infrastructure aimed at promoting the region as a premier destination for national and international productions.
A high-level delegation led by Commissioner Secretary, Information, M. Raju, along with Director Information, Nitish Rajora, Joint Director Information (Hqrs) Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, Joint Director Information Jammu Deepak Dubey, Nodal Officer J&K Film Policy Maheer Thakur, and Cultural Officer Kashmir Burhan Hussain represented the UT at the festival.
As part of the festival’s WAVES Film Bazaar, a dedicated J&K Pavilion showcased the scenic potential, cultural richness, and filmmaking advantages in the Union Territory. The pavilion drew interest from more than 500 filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals, many of whom discussed collaboration opportunities and exchanged contacts for future projects.
Speaking at the event, Director Information Nitish Rajora said the primary focus at IFFI was to promote the new film incentives and present Jammu & Kashmir as a world-class filming environment.
“The J&K Film Policy 2024 aims to facilitate large-scale Bollywood and international shoots in Kashmir while ensuring easy access, transparency, and single-window clearances,” Rajora said.
He added that DIPR also used the festival platform to promote J&K’s art, culture, cuisine, and world-renowned tourism potential, complementing the film policy’s vision of boosting film tourism.
During IFFI’s Knowledge Series, Rajora delivered a detailed presentation on the new film policy, highlighting the ease-of-doing-business reforms and expanded financial incentives.
Under the 2024 Film Policy:
• Film permissions are issued through a fully online single-window portal.
• Filmmakers can avail 5–10% subsidies for feature films and 10–15% for documentaries and web series.
• Additional incentives are offered to projects that promote Jammu & Kashmir or reflect patriotic themes.
The DIPR said the renewed interest shown by industry delegates at IFFI reinforces J&K’s position as a rising hub for film production, with the government committed to further strengthening institutional support and infrastructure to welcome filmmakers from across India and abroad | Kashmir Pen
