Srinagar, Nov 25, 2025(K Pen): The Department of Kashmiri, University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the Shri Pran Kishor Koul Institute of Music and Fine Arts, on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day national seminar titled “Prof. Rehman Rahi’s Contribution to Kashmiri Literature.”

The seminar has been conceptualised as both an academic and cultural tribute to Prof. Rehman Rahi — one of Kashmir’s most celebrated literary icons, known for shaping modern Kashmiri poetic discourse. Rahi remains the only Kashmiri writer to be honoured with the prestigious Jnanpith Award, in addition to being a renowned critic, translator, and scholar whose work continues to influence contemporary literature, thought, and cultural identity in the region.

The event brings together noted scholars, writers, researchers, students, and cultural practitioners from across the country to engage with Rahi’s multidimensional contributions. The programme includes keynote presentations, research paper sessions, readings, archival reflections, and cultural performances inspired by Rahi’s creative journey.

Organisers said the seminar is aimed at revisiting the intellectual depth, linguistic innovation, and philosophical underpinnings of Rahi’s writings, while also situating his legacy within broader South Asian literary traditions.

The two-day event is expected to enrich academic dialogue on Kashmiri language and literature, while also offering the younger generation deeper engagement with one of the region’s most defining literary voices | Kashmir Pen
