Srinagar, Nov 26,(K Pen): Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Wednesday issued a clarification following public debate over an internal order, stating that the document has been misinterpreted and does not relate to any form of VIP treatment.
In an official statement, SKIMS reiterated that “all patients are equally important” and that any system of streamlining or triaging is strictly based on medical urgency—not recommendations or referrals.
The institute recently inaugurated a Medical Social Welfare Cell as part of ongoing measures to improve patient care systems. The cell is staffed with designated officers and handles support for deserving patients through schemes including AB-PMJAY, RAN, Chief Minister’s Cancer Treatment Programme, and other welfare initiatives.
According to the institute, the order under discussion was issued solely to ensure that beneficiaries—especially poor and needy patients approaching Raj Bhawan, the office of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, and other higher offices—receive hassle-free access to entitled treatment under government schemes.
“Where does the question of VIP treatment come?” the statement questioned, calling the narrative surrounding the order “sensationalised and misleading.”
SKIMS said the current controversy appears to stem from misinterpretation and stressed that the institute stands committed to equitable healthcare delivery, ethical responsibility, and transparency.
The institution urged the public and media to verify information before drawing conclusions, stating that “responsible discourse is essential to maintaining trust in healthcare systems.”
SKIMS reaffirmed that it will continue to strengthen mechanisms that benefit all patients “without fear or favour.” | Kashmir Pen
