J&K State Legal Service Authority (SLSA) on Tuesday said it has been proactively involved in mitigating sufferings of people within J&K and Ladakh and those stranded in other parts of country.
A statement said the efforts in this regard were being made under the guidance of Justice Gita Mittal (Chief Justice), Patron-in-Chief JK SLSA and Justice Rajesh Bindal, executive Chairman, JK SLSA.
In the first phase, the SLSA spread awareness among the masses about the pandemic and the precautions required to be taken for their safety.
In view of much necessitated lockdown which keep many people away from their homeland in J&K and Ladakh, particularly the ones who had migrated either to earn their livelihoods or to pursue their studies, the SLSA launched helpline numbers: 9622200042 and 9419005744. People stranded outside can register their issues on these numbers.
Sensing the gravity of situation the people stranded outside may be confronted with problems like shortage of food, shelter and medicines, two officers, Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal and Noor Muhammad, Secretaries, DLSAs Baramulla and Kupwara, respectively were appointed as nodal officers to redress the issues of the distressed.
On the first day, 150 calls were received, of which 100 calls pertained to transportation of callers back home, but they were advised to stay where they are in view of lockdown.
The remaining 50 calls pertained to seeking provision for ration and medicines. The officers coordinated with the District Legal Service Authorities (DLSA) of the states concerned and got all the matters settled.
Similarly 120 calls were received on second day and most of the issues were resolved.
