Dozens of Activists from J&K Students Association and Students Federation of India here on Friday evening staged a protest demonstration and held a candlelight vigil at Gandhi Park Dehradun Uttarakhand in solidarity with the 19-year-old Dalit rape victim, who was gang raped in Hathras U.P. Protesting Activists while raising slogans demanded punishment to the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
Protesting Activists while raising slogans and carrying banners seeking justice for Hathras rape victim, said the candlelight march was aimed to draw attention to violence against women all over the world, adding, the modesty of women should be respected in all ways no matter which place. Activists on the occasion burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath.
Spokesperson of J&K Students Association Nasir Khuehami said that the act has shaken up whole humanity and has made everyone’s head hung in shame. He said that the rape of the Hathras victim, a Dalit woman, was not an isolated incident and that under the regime of the BJP government life had turned into a nightmare for women and Dalits. It was unfortunate that the victim did not get a proper funeral, instead she only got humiliation, he added.
Himanshu Chuahan, State Secretary Students Federation of India said that, this incident is a blot on our society. The family’s deprived of a respectable farewell to their little girl, he said. Increasing rape incidents in UP make it clear that the governance system of the BJP has completely failed, he said.
Another JKSA Activist Danish Lone, said that we demand the resignation of U.P. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, arrest and punish the CM along with senior UP police and district administrators under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, for the secret midnight cremation of the Dalit rape victim of Hathras.
