Action Follows Inquiry Panel’s Preliminary Report Citing Appointments Beyond Competence, Without Authorisation

Srinagar, Aug 3 : The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has ordered the immediate cancellation of all engagements made in its Kishtwar Unit from January 1, 2024, following the recommendations of an inquiry committee that found the appointments were allegedly made beyond the competence of the concerned authority and without approval from the competent authority.

According to an order issued by the Office of the Chairperson (Minister of State), J&K Waqf Board, a copy of which lies with news agency stated that, all engagements made in the office of the Executive Officer, J&K Waqf Board Unit Kishtwar, between January 1, 2024, and August 1, 2026, stand cancelled with immediate effect. Consequently, the services of all persons engaged during the said period have been terminated.

The order states that an inquiry committee was constituted vide Order No. 17 of 2026 dated July 30, 2026, to probe alleged irregularities reported and circulated on social media regarding the functioning of the Waqf Board’s Kishtwar Unit.

The committee, after conducting a preliminary inquiry, reportedly found that engagements had been made beyond the competence of the concerned office without obtaining mandatory authorisation from the competent authority. It recommended immediate cancellation of all such appointments.

Acting on the committee’s recommendations, the competent authority approved the cancellation, following which the disengagement order was issued on August 1, 2026
