SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16: The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Srinagar has called for establishing the permanent headquarters of the proposed National Law University (NLU) in the Kashmir Valley, while proposing a satellite campus in Jammu.

JKHCBA President, Adv. Waseem Gul, said the demand is being fully supported by the Kashmir Advocates Association, noting that the move is not rooted in regional favouritism but in the need to correct historical imbalances.

The Association argued that premier institutions like IIT and IIM were allotted to Jammu without parallel demands for parity, leaving the Valley without comparable flagship academic infrastructure.

To bridge regional aspirations and prevent unnecessary divisions, JKHCBA has proposed a dual-campus structure—permanent headquarters in the Valley and a fully functional satellite campus in Jammu—to facilitate joint academic activities, collaborative research, and seamless mobility for students and faculty across both regions.

The Association has urged the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to honour earlier commitments, including the temporary setup in Budgam, and finalize the Valley as the permanent base for NLU while ensuring adequate integration with Jammu.

“Legal education is central to justice, democracy, and progress—let us build it together for a stronger and united Jammu & Kashmir,” the statement read.
