Srinagar, Jan 16 — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday alleged that the United States has repeatedly intervened in other countries under the banner of restoring democracy, only to exploit their natural resources.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Mehbooba said “it has become a pattern” for Washington to launch military actions in different regions “in the name of democratic change,” while pursuing strategic and economic gains.
She expressed satisfaction over protests against US policies, saying such demonstrations “should have taken place across India as well.” Recalling India’s historical ties with Iran, she claimed those relations have deteriorated in recent years due to the BJP’s policies.
Warning that Iran could face a fate “worse than Syria” if foreign interference continued unchecked, the PDP chief alleged that the US and Israel were “anti-Muslim countries” and accused Washington of using “regime change” narratives to justify resource extraction.
Mehbooba further welcomed demonstrations in Kashmir in support of Iran, terming them an assertion against what she described as “global injustice.”
