Srinagar 09 Jul : Kalidas Theatre Srinagar on Wednesday staged the renowned Kashmiri satirical play Dastaar, written by celebrated playwright Hari Krishan Kaul, at the auditorium of Government Degree College Bemina. The performance was attended by a large gathering of students and college staff, who thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining yet thought-provoking production.
The play was presented by Kalidas Theatre Srinagar under the Shishya Parampara Scheme with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Dastaar is a powerful satire on human greed, hypocrisy, the misuse of power, and the changing values of society. While the word Dastaar literally means a turban, in the play it symbolizes honour, dignity, and identity. Although the story is set in the pre-1980 era, it offers a vivid portrayal of the customs, traditions, and administrative culture of that period.
Many students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to witness the lifestyle and social environment of an earlier generation. They also praised the performances of the cast, with special appreciation for actor Farooq Sheikh, whose portrayal received enthusiastic applause.
The cast also included Mohammad Ashraf Khan, Mohammad Ashraf Nagoo, Imran Farooq, Sania Mir, and Javed Gora. The production was presented under the supervision of Dr. Ayyash Arif.
The play was directed by Javed Ahmad Khan, with Mushtaq Wani serving as the Assistant Director.
Kalidas Theatre has announced that Dastaar will be staged again at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, in the near future.
