The athlete, trained under the Khelo India programme, won three high-level bouts during the tournament. He defeated Italy in the opening match, secured a knockout victory against Bangladesh in the second, and overcame host nation Sweden in the final to claim the top podium position.

Officials said the achievement highlights the role of the Khelo India initiative in identifying and nurturing grassroots talent from rural and border areas.

The programme aims to strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem and provide young athletes with opportunities to compete internationally.

“This victory demonstrates how structured training and support at the grassroots level can produce champions on the world stage,” an official said.

The athlete’s success has been widely praised as a proud moment for the nation and a testament to India’s growing presence in international Wushu competitions.(KNS)
