Jammu, Apr 24 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday chaired a high-level meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council (JKHEC) here during which he directed effective implementation of the ‘Design Your Degree’ (DYD) programme and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the curriculum, officials said.

The council deliberated on comprehensive strategies for holistic transformation of the education sector in the Union Territory, including adoption of the DYD manual, promotion of entrepreneurship and skill development to build human capital for ‘Viksit Bharat’.

“We must establish benchmarks aligned with both national and international standards, ensuring that J&K’s education sector stands as a model of excellence in the country,” Sinha was quoted as saying in an official statement.

The L-G called for seamless synergy between central and UT educational institutions. Prof Dinesh Singh stressed that the core mission should be realisation of human potential, with higher education directly fostering societal service and enhancing student productivity.

The council also discussed mechanisms for joint degree programmes, a common tech-based platform for sharing best practices, increasing Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER), and initiatives like ‘The Riverine College’ and an AI competition. Utilisation of the 2025-26 budget and allocations for 2026-27 were also reviewed, officials added.

Vice-chancellors shared insights on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Directors of colleges and principals of key government colleges were also present, they said. (KNS)
