A woman was seriously injured after she was attacked by a leopard in Hajin area in Mukdamyari village of Bandipora district on Sunday.
Police said that Khatija Begum, 60, W/o Mohd Sultan Kawa R/o Mukdamyari village in Hajin, was attacked by a leopard at her native village in the morning. She has suffered serious injuries, a police officer said. She was taken to community health centre, Hajin for treatment, he said.
Later, a leopard was killed by the villagers in presence of wildlife employees.
“Killing a leopard is illegal. It is endangered species as per International Union for Conservation of Nature. Culprits will be booked as per wildlife protection act,” said a forest student, adding, killing of a leopard in presence of wildlife official is inhuman.
Jammu and Kashmir wildlife protection act 1978 guarantees action against killers of wildlife animals, he said.
