Jammu/Srinagar, Apr 13: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday extended greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, as well as on the eve of Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

On Baisakhi, the Lieutenant Governor conveyed his heartiest greetings and best wishes to all, stating that this harvest festival stands as a solemn reminder of the extraordinary contributions of farmers whose labour, sacrifice, and dedication sustain the very foundation of the nation.

Sinha said Baisakhi also marks the historic foundation of the Khalsa Panth by the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who empowered the people and the community. “As we celebrate Baisakhi, let us recommit ourselves to Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s eternal teachings of righteousness, unity, devotion and selfless service to humanity,” the LG said, adding, “May this festival bring prosperity and joy to all in the year ahead.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended warm greetings on Baisakhi, highlighting the festival’s cultural and spiritual significance. He said that Baisakhi marks the harvest season and symbolises prosperity, hope and new beginnings.

“The festival reflects the rich cultural diversity and communal harmony of Jammu and Kashmir, where people of different faiths celebrate each other’s traditions with mutual respect and enthusiasm,” he said.

Omar expressed hope that the festival would bring peace, happiness and prosperity to every household and prayed for the well-being of the farming community, whose hard work sustains the region’s economy.

On the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the Lieutenant Governor said that Babasaheb stands as a transformative architect of India’s social and national ethos. “A tireless advocate for the oppressed, he devoted his life to eradicating social and economic inequities. His enduring vision continues to illuminate paths of hope and inspiration,” Sinha said. He urged people to pledge unwavering commitment to his principles and build a united, just, and compassionate society rooted in mutual trust and brotherhood.

CM Abdullah also paid rich tributes to Dr Ambedkar, describing him as a visionary leader, social reformer, and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

The Chief Minister said that Dr Ambedkar’s lifelong struggle for social justice, equality and the upliftment of marginalised sections continues to inspire generations. He called upon the people, especially the youth, to draw inspiration from Dr Ambedkar’s ideals and work towards building a just and equitable society.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, Abdullah said the true tribute to Dr Ambedkar lies in upholding his vision of social justice and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
