Srinagar, Sep 26: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved a series of senior-level bureaucratic appointments and transfers, with 2001-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer Mandeep K. Bhandari appointed as the new Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Bhandari, who is serving as Principal Secretary tp J&K LG has been appointed Chairperson, CBSE under the Ministry of Education in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India. The CBSE Chairperson post has been temporarily upgraded to the Additional Secretary level for the appointment.
Bhandari, an IAS officer of the 2001 AGMUT cadre, will take charge of the key education-sector assignment as part of the latest round of senior bureaucratic appointments approved by the ACC.
The ACC also approved the appointment of Vipin Kumar, IAS (BH:1996), presently Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), as Additional Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development.
Kumar’s appointment to the Rural Development Ministry involves a shift from his existing assignment as AAI Chairman.
Anand Singh, IAS (KL:2000), has been appointed Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, following the completion of his foreign assignment.
The ACC has directed that the period between the completion of Singh’s foreign assignment and his assumption of charge in the Department of Economic Affairs will be treated as compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training.
The September 25 ACC order also contains several other senior-level appointments and transfers involving key ministries and departments, including Finance, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Steel, Personnel, Power, Jal Shakti, Education and Skill Development.
The appointment of Bhandari as CBSE Chairperson is among the prominent decisions in the latest round of central government bureaucratic appointments.
