The Meteorological Department on Sunday forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds at several places, while an improvement in weather conditions is expected from February 4 onwards.

According to the five-day forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, February 1 will witness light rain and snowfall at many places across the Union Territory, with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds. The department has also cautioned about moderate snowfall over a few higher reaches on the day.

On February 2, light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated higher reaches, particularly towards night, while February 3 is expected to see light rain and snowfall at many places across J&K.

The weather is likely to remain partly cloudy from February 4 to February 6, providing temporary relief from precipitation. However, the department has predicted light rain and snowfall at a few places on February 7, followed again by partly cloudy conditions from February 8 to February 10.

The MeT department has advised people, especially those travelling to higher reaches, to remain cautious, citing the possibility of gusty winds and snowfall. Meanwhile, there is no major weather warning in force for the period, officials said.
