The Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid taking shelter near loose structures, electric poles, over and power lines and ageing trees during thunderstorms and periods of strong winds.

Authorities have also recommended the suspension of boating and Shikara operations during adverse weather conditions to ensure public safety.

The department further cautioned that intense short-duration showers could trigger flash floods and mudslides at isolated locations across the region.
