SRINAGAR 16 Jun : Police in central kashmir’s Srinagar district have attached immovable properties worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

According to a police statement, the action was taken to target assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking and to weaken the financial infrastructure supporting the illegal drug trade.

In one case, Police Station Batamaloo attached a three-storey residential house valued at approximately Rs 80 lakh at Nundresh Colony, Muslimabad, Srinagar, belonging to Sikander Firdous, son of Abdul Rehman Ahanger. Firdous is named in FIR No. 18/2022 registered under Sections 8, 21, 29 and 27-A of the NDPS Act, along with Sections 468, 471 and 473 of the Indian Penal Code. The property was attached under Section 68F(1) read with Section 68E of the NDPS Act.

In a separate operation, Police Station Kralkhud attached a single-storey house worth around Rs 70 lakh belonging to Ghulam Hassan Bhat, son of Late Abdul Rahim Bhat, a resident of Mirgund Kanalwan, Bijbehara in Anantnag district. Bhat is facing proceedings in FIR No. 20/2022 registered under Sections 8, 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said the property was attached under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, and the attachment order has been forwarded to the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Appellate Tribunal (SAFEMA), New Delhi, for further action. The owner has been prohibited from selling, leasing, transferring or creating any third-party interest in the property.

Investigations, police said, established that both properties had allegedly been acquired through proceeds generated from illicit narcotics trafficking.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating drug abuse and narcotics trafficking, Srinagar Police urged members of the public to share information relating to drug peddling and substance abuse to support efforts aimed at creating a drug-free society.
