Independent legislator and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chairman Er. Rasheed on Saturday met Governor N N Vohra and apprised him of concerns over the revocation of Article 35-A.

He also sought his help to lift the ban on the formation of students’ unions in the colleges and universities of the state.

“During his 45-minute long meeting with Governor N. N. Vohra, Er Rasheed expressed deep concern over the conspiracy being created against Article 35-A by certain sections,” said a statement, issued by the AIP party.

He apprised the Governor about the sentiments of people over the issue and said that the law is in practice since 19th century and that it has nothing to do with a particular community or the region.

“…and it were the people of Jammu who persuaded Maharaja to from state subject laws and not to allow anyone to purchase land in the state for the larger interest of people of the state.”

Rasheed requested the Governor to ask the state government to hold an emergency session of the state Assembly to discuss this significant issue.

He also requested Governor to apprise union government not to encourage forces bent on to drag J&K’s special status to the Supreme Court.

He also sought the help of Vohra in the revocation of ban on formation of student unions.

“Rasheed also discussed various developmental issues pertaining to Langate constituency including measures being taken to develop Bungas and Leepa as prominent tourist destinations,” said the statement
