Srinagar, June 3, : What was officially convened as a meeting of the National Conference (NC) Legislature Party at the Chief Minister’s Gupkar residence on Wednesday took an unexpected turn when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led party legislators to Dachigam National Park for a day-long interaction.
Sources told news agency that, all NC ministers and MLAs who had been asked to attend the meeting at 10:00 am at the Chief Minister’s residence were subsequently taken to Dachigam National Park, where elaborate security and logistical arrangements had been put in place in advance.
In a letter issued to legislators ahead of the meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had stated: “I am writing to invite you to a meeting convened to deliberate upon matters of collective importance and issues concerning public welfare. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 10:00 am at Gupkar, Srinagar. Given the significance of the matters proposed to be discussed, your attendance is mandatory and may kindly be ensured.”
However, after assembling at Gupkar residence in Srinagar, legislators were transported to Dachigam National Park, where discussions are understood to be taking place in a secluded setting.
Sources told that extensive security arrangements were made at the national park ahead of the visit. Lunch and other hospitality arrangements have also been organized for the legislators.
According to sources, the legislators are expected to remain at Dachigam until around 2:30 pm before returning back.
Meanwhile, the visit led to temporary restrictions on tourist entry into the park. Sources said visitors were not being allowed to enter portions of the national park.
Several tourists who had arrived to visit Dachigam expressed disappointment after being informed that access had been restricted due to official engagements.
“We had planned this visit in advance, but were told the park was temporarily closed for tourists,” said one visitor.
The unexpected venue shift has sparked curiosity in political circles, with many speculating about the significance of holding the legislature party meeting away from its originally announced location.
