January 21, 2026: National Conference MLA from Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, has objected to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurating the redeveloped Amira Kadal pedestrian bridge on Tuesday.

Shaheen argued that the LG’s involvement in a routine civic infrastructure project encroaches on the domain of elected institutions. In a social media post, he emphasized that such works fall under the responsibility of the elected government and local administration.

“Frequent ceremonial involvement of a constitutional office in such projects risks eroding democratic decentralization and diluting long-established governance conventions,” Shaheen stated. He insisted that visible authority over civic functions should rest with elected representatives.

Notably, NC MLA Ahsan Pardesi, whose Amira Kadal constituency hosts the bridge, attended the event alongside the Lieutenant Governor.
