Mehbooba Mufti has belittled the stature of CM’s chair
Assembly Sessions utilized for Govt’s rhetoric and shameless PR
Srinagar | Saturday, June 17, 2017: National Conference Legislators on Saturday protested against the PDP-BJP Government over the unabated spate of killings and deteriorating situation in the Valley and said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had belittled the stature of the Chief Minister’s chair due to her shocking failure to deal with the situation.
Protesting against the PDP-BJP dispensation ahead of the Special Session of the Legislature, National Conference Legislators led by NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar raised slogans against the Government and carried placards highlighting the Government’s inaction and complicity resulting in the loss of lives in the Valley. Addressing reporters on this occasion, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said that the PDP-BJP Alliance was primarily and squarely responsible for the current situation in the Valley as the alliance had given rise to increased alienation and political isolation in Kashmir.
“Tragically the Chief Minister lacks both the sense of responsibility as well as the seriousness to deal with the situation and ensure an atmosphere of peace is established. Her contradictions, ruthless statements and incompetence has led to a situation where we are losing precious lives on all sides with every passing day. Condemning the dastardly attack on a police party at Achabal, Anantnag District yesterday, NC General Secretary said the Chief Minister should acknowledge her failure to prevent loss of lives and should accordingly take a call of her conscience”, Sagar said.
“We pay a tribute to the slain policemen and also mourn the killings of civilians who have lost their lives in recent incidents of violence in the Valley. The responsibility lies with the Chief Minister and her Government. She should apologize for her failures instead of pointing fingers based on her factually incorrect concoctions. Deflecting blame and shifting responsibility doesn’t behoove a Chief Minister”, Sagar added.
The NC General Secretary said it was shameful that the Chief Minister still had the audacity to talk about political engagement with stakeholders when her own alliance partner had officially and formally declared their unwillingness to hold talks. “If Mehbooba Ji wants New Delhi to initiate talks why is she still in this alliance given that New Delhi has categorically ruled out any dialogue with stakeholders?”, Sagar asked.
“The PDP-BJP Alliance has started to misuse the legislature for its contrarian rhetoric and PR. Factually incorrect statements and distortions of history being made in the Legislative Assembly have exposed the PDP-BJP Alliance as a hollow, opportunistic alliance forged together to share the spoils of power at the cost of their respective ideologies. Rather than having the grace and sense of responsibility to accept her Government’s complete and shocking failure, Mehbooba Mufti is busy looking for escape routes and blaming others”, the NC General Secretary said.
The NC General Secretary also lashed out at the PDP-BJP Government for trying dilute the State’s political and fiscal autonomy through extension of the GST Central Law to the State.
Meanwhile NC leader and legislator Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi) has expressed grief and sorrow over the killing of two civilians at Arwani, Kulgam and has expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families. He has also condemned the use of brutal and unbridled force against civilians and the ransacking of hundreds of homes in the area.
